Learn to Four Season Garden

Our attention turned to Four Season Gardening a few years ago after a wind storm. Our small community had a power outage as a result of this storm.  The power stayed off for 5 days. Many of the locals lost their freezer food. But, what was sobering was what happened to our local big box grocery store. All of the refrigerator items were bought in short order. They were not replaced. The store had no meats, milk products, cheese, eggs, freezer foods, or vegetables that needed to be kept cool. The store in a few short days became empty.

We also started noticing how unpredictable our weather became. Our summer garden this year is at least one month behind the regular season. Many local gardeners experienced little or no tomatoes this year. We planted 14 tomato plants and have only 2 tomatoes. Broccoli bolted early and many crops that we would have saved seed from will be too late in fruiting to save seed from the vine.

Much of what we buy that is in the non-organic categories are contaminated by pesticides, herbicides, hormones, e-coli or salmonella. The news today is that millions of eggs are being recalled from contamination.
